I have asthma. The smoke from other tenants comes into my apartment. What can I do to rid my apt of the smoke?

I live in an apartment where the tenants front doors open into an interior corridor. Most of the other tenants smoke. The smoke comes into my apartment if I have my door open (to let the building cooler cool my apartment). I have my own air conditioner in my unit, but it pulls in as much or more smoke than having the door open. I have asthma and am allergic to smoke. I just moved in a week ago and I am physically sick from the smoke. I live in Reno, Nevada (if that is pertinent). What can I do? The management understands my problem, but we just don't know what to do about it. Any ideas? I can't afford to buy an air purifier right now, although I may when I can afford it. Please help!
