History question about Germany - does anyone know?
Check Google Earth (free install) and look for Frankenstein, Rheinland-Pfalz. It will get you straight there and you actually can view some photos of the castle you are looking for. The coordinates are 49 26 19 North and 7 58 31 East. The Hohenstaufens were a ruling aristocracy in the past in the south of Germany. The Hohenstaufen castle ruin high above the Speyer brook was constructed in several phases in the 12th and 13th century. Together with the entrance of the railroad tunnel and the Frankenstein church, the ruin forms an amazing ensemble of red sandstone.
