By the sounds of it Wayne they attacked you and your girlfriend because they saw the two of you as easy targets. As you stated, "they", so there must of been at least two or three of them acting like thugs. It doesn't matter where we are on the planet, there will always be some people who think that they can do whatever they like without the consequences ( thankfully it's only a small % ). Well done for smashing one of them and damaging their eye ( this will make it easier for the police to identify them through hospital records from the date of the attack ), it's only fair Wayne, they would of hurt you and your girlfriend if they got you on the ground mate.
